Copyright and Content Licensing Policy
Purpose
DeshiAI respects the intellectual-property rights of writers, photographers, artists, researchers, publishers, institutions, developers and other creators. It expects readers, contributors, advertisers, partners, service providers and organizations seeking to reuse DeshiAI material to respect those rights as well.
This policy explains ownership of material published by DeshiAI, permitted uses that may not require prior approval, situations where written permission or a license is necessary, how contributor-created material is handled, how images, data, audio, video and third-party works are reviewed, how copyright concerns can be raised and how automated and artificial-intelligence uses are addressed. Copyright and related rights vary by jurisdiction, and nothing in this policy limits any statutory right, exception, limitation or remedy available under applicable law.
Material Covered
Material published or made available through DeshiAI may include articles, headlines, summaries, investigations, analysis, opinion, interviews, reviews, policy documents, newsletters, photographs, illustrations, graphics, infographics, charts, maps, databases, audio, video, transcripts, translations, software, code, page layouts, logos, trademarks, branding, social-media material, downloadable documents, research material, data presentations, synthetic illustrations, Sponsored Content, Partner Content and other editorial or commercial material.
Different elements appearing on the same page may belong to different rights holders and may be governed by different licenses or permissions. The presence of material on a DeshiAI page does not mean that every element is covered by one common license.
Rights Holders
Copyright and related rights may belong to DeshiAI, its Publisher, an identified author, photographer, illustrator, designer, researcher, contributor, agency, media organization, commercial partner, sponsor, institution, software provider, database owner, syndication partner, stock-media provider, public authority, licensed supplier or another identified rights holder.
An article byline identifies authorship but does not establish ownership of every photograph, graphic, quotation, recording or embedded element. Users should review credits, captions, licenses and source information before reusing material.
DeshiAI Original Content
Unless a different rights statement is provided, original material created and owned by DeshiAI is protected by applicable copyright and related laws. Access to a public DeshiAI page does not transfer ownership or create an unrestricted right to republish, reproduce, translate, adapt, distribute, sell, sublicense, scrape, syndicate, use for commercial model training, create a competing database, remove attribution or present the material as another person’s original work.
DeshiAI may grant permission or a license for particular uses. Written permission should be obtained where a proposed use goes beyond an applicable legal exception or an expressly stated public license.
Contributor-Owned Work
Unless a written commissioning or rights agreement provides otherwise, an author or contributor generally retains copyright in the person’s original contribution. By submitting material that is accepted for publication, the contributor grants DeshiAI a non-exclusive license, to the extent necessary and lawful, to edit, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, archive, preserve, promote, excerpt, format, technically adapt, correct, update, include in newsletters, distribute through social channels, include in feeds, create accessible versions, translate where agreed, license or syndicate where agreed and preserve correction or retraction records.
A separate agreement may establish exclusivity, first-publication rights, territory, translation, syndication, adaptation, duration, payment, moral-rights treatment, reuse rights, withdrawal conditions or licensing authority. Where such an agreement exists, its terms govern the contributor relationship to the extent permitted by law.
Contributor Responsibility
A contributor should submit material only where the contributor has the necessary rights, permissions or lawful basis to do so. Contributors must disclose prior publication, joint authorship, employer ownership, client ownership, commissioned work, copyright assignments, exclusivity, image restrictions, database rights, music rights, trademark limitations, translation rights, confidential information, embargoes, third-party quotations, material AI generation, stock-media conditions and other relevant restrictions.
Having possession of a file does not establish a right to publish it. Material discovered through an internet search is not automatically public-domain material, and providing attribution does not replace permission where permission is legally required.
Employee, Contractor and Joint Work
Rights in material produced by an employee, contractor, agency or service provider may depend on the relevant contract, jurisdiction, employment relationship, commissioning terms, assignment, license, scope of work and applicable law. Before publication, DeshiAI seeks to establish that the necessary rights exist for the intended use. Payment or an invoice alone does not necessarily transfer every intellectual-property right.
Where material is jointly created, the parties should clarify authorship, bylines, editing authority, payment, licensing, republication, correction, withdrawal, translation, derivative use and dispute handling where practical. One joint creator should not promise exclusive rights that the creator does not independently control.
Quotation
DeshiAI may quote limited portions of another work where permitted by applicable law and justified by reporting, criticism, review, scholarship, public discussion or another lawful purpose. Quotations should be relevant, proportionate, accurately attributed, connected to reporting or commentary, no longer than reasonably necessary and faithful to their original context.
A lengthy extract cannot ordinarily be justified merely by attribution or citation. Changing a small number of words does not turn copied expression into original writing.
Readers may generally share a direct link, quote a limited passage with suitable attribution, use a reasonable excerpt for lawful criticism, reporting, teaching or scholarship, share a headline with a link and cite an article in research. Such use should not remove essential context, misrepresent the author, imply endorsement, replace the original article or reproduce most of the protected work.
Linking, Headlines and Snippets
DeshiAI welcomes lawful links to publicly available pages. A link must not falsely suggest sponsorship, partnership, authorization, endorsement, ownership or official affiliation. Pages should not be framed, reproduced or presented in a way that conceals their source, materially alters their presentation or misleads readers about who created or published the material.
A headline and short descriptive snippet may be used where lawful when directing readers to the original article. Systematic copying of DeshiAI headlines, summaries and metadata into a competing publication, commercial database or substitute news service may require permission or a license.
Republication and Syndication
Republishing a complete or substantial DeshiAI article generally requires prior written permission or a licensing agreement. A license may specify the relevant article and version, author credit, source link, publication date, correction notice, territory, language, duration, commercial use, advertising, permitted editing, image rights, distribution, automated use, archive treatment, withdrawal, payment and termination.
A republisher must not remove material disclosures, omit the author, alter the meaning, present Sponsored Content as independent journalism, remove corrections, circulate an outdated inaccurate version, conceal the original source, add a misleading headline, reuse images without rights or suggest a broader relationship with DeshiAI than the agreement permits.
Syndication arrangements may address delivery, permitted platforms, publication timing, corrections and updates, metadata, canonical treatment, image rights, commercial presentation, exclusivity, translation, archiving, AI use and termination. Syndication partners are expected to implement material corrections and retractions promptly.
Translation
Translation may create a derivative work and generally requires permission unless an applicable legal exception permits otherwise. A translation agreement may identify the language, translator, title, attribution, review process, permitted adaptation, terminology, correction procedure, platform, territory, rights, payment, automated assistance and whether the original-language version remains authoritative.
A translation should preserve factual meaning, uncertainty, tone, legal status, disclosures, source attribution, corrections and article classification. Translation should not introduce additional certainty or remove material context. Material machine-assisted translation should receive proportionate human review.
Images and Photographs
Images are used only where DeshiAI has an appropriate legal basis, such as original creation, assignment, license, contributor permission, agency arrangement, public-domain status, applicable legal exception, official-use terms or a valid stock-media license.
For material images, DeshiAI may maintain information concerning the creator, rights holder, source, license, date, location, subject, restrictions, required credit, consent, editorial or commercial purpose, alteration, synthetic status and expiry where relevant.
A photograph posted publicly on social media is not automatically free to republish, and an image credit does not substitute for permission when permission is legally necessary.
Image Editing and Synthetic Media
Images are not materially altered in a deceptive manner. Routine production adjustments may include cropping, resizing, exposure or color correction, technical optimization, redaction, accessibility adaptation and removal of technical defects. A material alteration that could change documentary meaning is disclosed.
DeshiAI does not deceptively add or remove people, combine unrelated photographs to create a false event, alter identifying characteristics, fabricate evidence, place a person at an event they did not attend, imply wrongdoing through unrelated imagery or conceal material synthetic generation.
Synthetic images, audio and video are subject to the applicable AI and Synthetic Media standards. Before publication, DeshiAI considers tool terms, commercial rights, third-party likeness, trademarks, protected characters, source-image rights, public-figure identity, deceptive context, disclosure, privacy and potential reproduction of protected expression. Permission from an AI or editing-tool provider does not necessarily resolve rights belonging to third parties.
Screenshots
Screenshots may contain protected text, software interfaces, trademarks, private messages, personal information, account identifiers, security information or confidential material. Their use should be relevant and proportionate. DeshiAI may crop, obscure or redact unnecessary information where it creates privacy, safety or intellectual-property concerns.
A screenshot of a webpage, application or social-media post is not automatically proof that the displayed material is authentic, current or complete.
Video and Audio
Publishing video or audio may involve rights relating to recording, performance, music, scripts, locations, voices, images, broadcast rights, archive footage, editing, synchronization, distribution, territory and platform. Contributors must identify music, clips or recordings that they did not create or otherwise control.
A transcript does not automatically provide permission to reproduce or distribute the underlying recording.
Music cannot be used simply because it is available through a social platform, editing application or online library. Rights may exist separately in the composition, lyrics, sound recording, performance, synchronization, reproduction and distribution. Rights available for commercial material may also differ from those applicable to independent editorial use.
Data, Databases, Charts and Maps
Individual facts may receive different protection from original expression, but databases, selection, arrangement, access conditions and contractual rights may be protected. DeshiAI considers the source, license, database terms, permitted extraction, attribution, commercial use, personal information, API restrictions and extent of reuse.
Public accessibility does not automatically authorize systematic extraction.
A chart created by DeshiAI from lawfully obtained data may contain protectable original design and presentation, while the underlying data may belong to another source. A chart reproduced from another publisher may require permission even where its underlying figures are publicly available.
Maps may involve copyright, database rights, provider attribution, licensing restrictions, disputed boundaries, security considerations and personal-location information. Where boundaries are disputed, a map should not be interpreted as expressing a definitive legal or political position unless the article specifically addresses that issue.
Documents and Public Records
Publishing a document may involve copyright, privacy, confidentiality, security and other legal restrictions. DeshiAI may quote, summarize or describe a document without reproducing it in full. Before publishing an entire document, editors consider public interest, rights ownership, source, personal information, trade secrets, legal restrictions, security, redaction, authenticity and whether a summary can serve the same purpose.
A leaked document is not automatically free from copyright. Material held or released by a public authority may still contain third-party rights, personal information, court restrictions or specific conditions governing use.
Trademarks and Branding
DeshiAI may use names, logos and trademarks for accurate reporting, identification, criticism, comparison or another lawful purpose. Such use does not imply endorsement, sponsorship or affiliation where none exists.
The DeshiAI name, logo and distinctive branding must not be used to impersonate the publication, create a fake newsroom, sell unauthorized publication services, falsely present an unofficial contributor as an employee, issue deceptive invoices, solicit money through misleading representations, operate a misleading duplicate website or suggest an unauthorized partnership.
A contributor may accurately state that their work has been published by DeshiAI but must not describe themselves as a current employee, editor or representative unless that status is genuine.
Open Licenses and Public Domain
Some DeshiAI or third-party material may be made available under a stated open license. The specific license governs that material, including attribution, commercial-use conditions, derivative-work requirements, share-alike obligations, database coverage, image exclusions and whether the license applies to an entire page or only a specified element. An open license should not be assumed where none is expressly provided.
Public-domain status is assessed according to the relevant jurisdiction and may depend on author, publication date, type of work, government status, restoration rules, source, edition, translation, photograph, database, performance and related rights. A public-domain work may appear within an edition containing protected design, annotations or translation.
Accessibility, Education and Research
DeshiAI may create or permit accessible versions where required or allowed by law. Such adaptations may include text alternatives, transcripts, captions, audio descriptions, structured documents, enlarged text, accessible PDFs or other appropriate formats. Accessible versions should preserve authorship, meaning, corrections and material disclosures. Accessibility requests may be sent to accessibility@deshiai.in.
Limited educational and research use may be permitted under applicable law. Institutions seeking systematic copying, course-pack distribution, repository publication, commercial training or large-scale dataset use should request appropriate permission. An educational or research purpose does not automatically authorize unlimited reproduction.
Commercial Reuse
Commercial reuse generally requires written permission or an appropriate license. Examples may include paid publication, advertising, product marketing, commercial AI training, subscription databases, research services, media-monitoring products, corporate reports, investor presentations, commercial newsletters, branded events or consultancy deliverables.
The fact that reuse may promote DeshiAI does not eliminate the need for permission.
Artificial Intelligence and Automated Use
Systematic copying of DeshiAI material for commercial model training, dataset creation, synthetic republication, retrieval products or competing services may require permission or a license, except where applicable law or an express public instruction permits the use.
A machine-use agreement may address included and excluded material, contributor rights, images, personal information, collection frequency, retention, training, retrieval, attribution, correction propagation, security, derivative models, compensation, deletion, audit and termination.
DeshiAI does not claim that every automated use can be prohibited beyond the rights and technical controls lawfully available. Search indexing, accessibility tools, lawful quotation and legitimate research may be treated differently from systematic commercial content extraction.
Web Scraping and Archiving
Automated collection must comply with applicable law, technical controls, robots instructions, rate limits, access restrictions, privacy, intellectual-property rights, security, contractual terms and applicable licenses.
Scraping must not overload DeshiAI systems, evade technical controls, collect restricted information, unlawfully collect personal data, remove attribution, reproduce substantial content as a substitute service, bypass authentication or obtain unpublished drafts.
Archiving may serve historical, research and public-interest purposes. DeshiAI may permit reputable archival preservation subject to rights, privacy, source safety, corrections and removal requirements. Archived material should not be used to circulate a retracted or corrected article without appropriate notice.
Corrections and Licensed Copies
Anyone republishing DeshiAI material under license is expected to implement material corrections, disclosures and retractions. A licensing agreement may require monitoring correction notices, replacing inaccurate versions, preserving correction information, removing retracted material, correcting headlines and notifying downstream licensees.
Rights Notices
A person or organization alleging copyright or related-rights infringement may send a notice to legal@deshiai.in. The notice should identify the claimant, contact details, rights holder, authority to act, protected work, exact DeshiAI URL, allegedly infringing material, basis of ownership, applicable jurisdiction, requested remedy, supporting evidence and the good-faith basis for the claim.
Unnecessary sensitive personal information should not be included.
DeshiAI considers ownership, licensing, attribution, public-domain status, applicable legal exceptions, reporting purpose, amount used, market impact, transformation, jurisdiction, public interest, contributor representations and available remedies. Receiving a rights notice does not automatically establish infringement.
Depending on the circumstances, a notice may result in clarification, corrected attribution, additional credit, replacement, licensing, limitation, removal, temporary restriction, preservation pending review, contributor notification, rejection, correction or legal review. Remedies are considered proportionately. Fraudulent or abusive notices intended to suppress lawful criticism, falsely claim ownership, target public-domain material, conceal an existing license or expose a confidential source may be rejected.
Author Withdrawal and Record Integrity
An author does not automatically have the right to remove an accurate published article simply because the author later changes an opinion, employment situation, commercial interest or public identity. DeshiAI may consider safety, privacy, serious conflicts, factual reliability, rights defects, legal obligations, protected identities, continuing harm and contractual terms.
Possible outcomes may include a profile update, disclosure, pseudonym, correction, removal of unnecessary personal information, archive restriction, de-indexing, retraction, removal or no change. Protecting the integrity of the published record remains an important consideration.
Licensing Requests and Contact
Licensing and republication requests should identify the requester, organization, relevant article or material, exact URL, proposed use, territory, language, platform, intended audience, commercial or non-commercial purpose, duration, proposed editing, image use, AI or automated use, distribution and intended publication date.
Requests may be sent to legal@deshiai.in. Sending a request does not itself create permission. Permission is valid only when provided through an authorized written response or applicable license.
Permission to reuse DeshiAI material does not imply endorsement, partnership, approval of surrounding material, support for a product, responsibility for a translation or certification of subsequent modifications.
